PERFORMING ARTS LIBRARY POLICIES

GENERAL POLICY

The Museum of Performance & Design Performing Arts Library is open to the general public free of charge Wednesday through Saturday from Noon until 5 PM.

Appointments for research are strongly suggested to ensure that the materials you wish to access are available and accessible.

To help safeguard and preserve the Library’s materials for future study and examination, please read and observe the following rules which are in keeping with guidelines established by the Society of American Archivists.


RULES

  • Researchers must check in at the front desk to obtain a library pass.
  • Researchers must leave a valid picture ID at the front desk during their visit.
  • All bags, briefcases and large purses will be placed in a locker during research.
  • Researchers must use pencils at all times to insure document safety.
  • Researchers must return their library pass to the front desk to retrieve their ID.
  • There is no eating, drinking, loitering or smoking in the research room at any time.
  • Researchers must refrain from touching display items or other materials not brought to the them for their use.
  • All personal research materials brought into the research room by researchers may be examined by staff upon leaving.
  • All photocopying is done by staff at established rates.
  • Researchers must preserve and maintain the existing order and arrangement of documents.
  • Unbound manuscripts must be placed flat on reading tables.
  • Researchers must not mark documents or write on top of books, folders, or other library materials. 
  • Researchers must not lean on, fold, or trace from any manuscript or book.
  • Researchers are asked to report any apparent disarrangement to the staff. 
  • Researchers must return materials to a librarian when finished with them.

COPYRIGHT

The Museum of Performance & Design possesses physical property rights through its ownership of manuscript materials. 

Copyright, however, often resides either with the author or his/her heirs and must be secured by the researcher prior to reproduction of published material.

Researchers are required to sign an agreement to be be responsible for conforming to copyright, right-to-privacy, libel, slander, and any other applicable statutes and to indemnify and hold harmless The Museum of Performance & Design, its officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims resulting from the use of materials in the Museum of Performance & Design Performing Arts Library.

Failure to comply with these rules may result in the denial of access to the collection.
